For 30 years, BJL Laboratoires has supported professionals in the construction, industrial, public and environmental sectors by providing reliable, rapid analytical testing services that meet regulatory requirements.

Founded in 1996 by three international partners – Mr Béjot (France), Dr Jalenti (Switzerland) and Dr Lee (United States) – the laboratory takes its name from the initials of its founders. Their objective was to establish an independent laboratory entirely dedicated to asbestos testing, at a time when the regulatory framework surrounding asbestos was undergoing significant changes.

From the outset, BJL Laboratoires distinguished itself through the quality of its analyses and its scientific independence, quickly becoming a trusted partner for the emerging property inspection and asbestos surveying industry.

A New Chapter Beginning in 2002

In 2002, six years after its establishment, BJL Laboratoires was acquired by Salvatore Trapani and his son Jean-Luc Trapani, with the ambition of transforming a laboratory specialising in asbestos testing into a multidisciplinary environmental testing laboratory.

At that time, the laboratory's activities were exclusively focused on asbestos analysis.

Salvatore Trapani was already recognised as one of the pioneers of regulatory property inspections in France. From the introduction of the first asbestos-related obligations, he played an active role in developing the profession and supporting surveyors, property owners, project developers and public authorities in implementing emerging regulations. His extensive field experience and thorough understanding of industry requirements provided a major advantage in guiding the laboratory's development.

Alongside him, Jean-Luc Trapani, a systems engineer, joined the company after spending six years as Technical Director at the French laboratory of the American market leader in environmental testing. This experience provided him with extensive expertise in analytical methods, laboratory management, scientific information systems, quality assurance and process automation.

Under their leadership, BJL Laboratoires underwent a major transformation. New analytical capabilities were progressively developed to address evolving regulations and emerging environmental challenges. The laboratory expanded its services to include lead testing, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), soil and water analysis, airborne fibre analysis and, more recently, PFAS testing and the detection of other environmental contaminants.
