Why test industrial discharges for PFAS?
PFAS have been used in many industrial processes and products, including surface treatments, technical textiles, firefighting foams, coatings, packaging, non-stick products and specialised formulations.
PFAS testing can identify a potential source, monitor a discharge, assess the effectiveness of a treatment system or meet an environmental monitoring requirement.

Defining the analytical programme
Before testing, the following information should be provided:
- the site's activities and processes;
- the type of effluent to be tested;
- the possible presence of firefighting foams;
- products or treatments that may contain PFAS;
- the number and location of sampling points;
- the required list of PFAS;
- the required limits of quantification;
- the regulatory or contractual framework of the investigation.
Sampling precautions
Samples intended for PFAS testing must be collected using compatible equipment. Certain coatings, seals, tubes and consumables may contain fluoropolymers and cause contamination.

PFAS testing report
The report lists the substances tested, the results obtained, the units used and the associated limits of quantification.
